All Roads Lead to Chicago February 3, 2010
In November, Lyn Knight and Jim Taylor presented their second Greater Chicago Postcard and Paper Show, with many of the top dealers form the U.S. and Europe in attendance. With over 150 tables of great merchandise offered, the attendees were able to spend their two days shopping, visiting, and re-connecting with old friends of the hobby as well as meeting the new collectors and dealers. Our good friend Reno Daret of Metairie, LA came all the way from Louisiana by Amtrack train to sneak up and catch all the New Orleans postcards for his specialized collection. Susan Nicholson, former proprietor of the show was in great form, buying and selling and enjoying her second show away from having to sit at the door. She's not far from the door, and always ready to give advice and make recommendations and give appraisals to collectors and dealers alike. The show's new owner, Lyn Knight was in attendance, showcasing the new Lyn Knight Postcard Auction material, and introducing his "Postcard Shop'" huge graphic backdrop, replicating an old time postcard shop, complete with postcard racks, and 50,000 postcards for $1 each. A display from Lyn Knight Auction included displays on stage of the state of the art, Knight Live Internet Auction operation. Ron from Holland had his new material fresh from the European shows here for his U.S. customers, Joey handled the Spring 2009 for mom Mary Martin, and in the Fall 2009 show, our good friend, the one and only Bill Martin was holding court in his corner of the room, with everyone taking turns going to visit and shop his huge stock. Lots of old friendships were renewed, as a number of dealers that either hadn't been at Chicago before, or had not been there for a number of years had returned, much to the delight of the crowd of collectors that came to the show. The first of the two 2010 Greater Chicago Postcard and Paper Shows is coming up April 16, 17, 2010, with a promise of approximately 55 dealers from all over the U.S. and Europe. It promises to bring lots of 'other' paper, posters, documents, photographs, not just postcards, and also featuring archival supplies, reference books, door prize drawing every hour, and a promise of a good time for all.
