Our June 2009 auction will be held in our Lenexa, KS, facility on June 3, 4 and 5, with a small show preceding the auction, allowing dealers a chance to display their wares for the attending collectors and dealers. This auction falls between the Long Beach show and the Baltimore show, so some dealers may choose to take it easy, but bourse tables are free, so simply let us know if you would like to have a table by phone or email. Setup will be Tuesday at 9 AM with public at 10 AM. Wednesday hours will be 10 AM – 4 PM, with the auction containing everything except National Bank Notes Wednesday evening. Thursday morning at 10 AM will be the Nationals session and Friday at 10 AM we will sell World Bank Notes. Please come enjoy our hospitality!
This sale features several major collections including the Paul A. Klinkert Collection of large and small size U.S. type notes, National Bank Notes and even some obsoletes. I think we have little history of Paul except he collected mostly in the 50s and was in the military, working in Virginia and Missouri. The collection was held another generation before its sale. We’ve had virtually all of the notes graded and there is a wide variety of wonderful notes.
Louis W. Van Belkum was the primary researcher of all data concerning National Bank Notes, and his 1968 book National Banknotes of the Issuing Period 1863-1935 was the foundation for the entire field. His collection was focused on Michigan National Bank Notes, especially Grand Rapids, and you will find some amazing material that has been off the market for more than a quarter century. He also had notes from out of state, including the $5 First Charter FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF WASHINGTON, DC, without a doubt as important as one could ask for. He also has a collection of large size type, small size type, obsolete notes and others.
The Bernalito Collection of New Mexico National Bank Notes features a wonderful group consisting mostly of large size Territorial and state notes from New Mexico. It contains two different Santa Fe lazy deuces and beautiful Territorials from Lake Arthur, Nara Visa, Las Vegas, Albuquerque and more, with many important state notes as well.
The David Rickey Collection of $500 and $1,000 small size notes has virtually every different 1928 and 1934 $500 and $1,000 available. He was able to acquire I remember around 70 different notes in the best grades possible. There is an amazing selection of Federal Reserve Bank Notes and Federal Reserve Notes, including $50 and $100 Red Seals that have not been available for a long time. There are some great rarities and some average notes as well because Dave loved those collecting areas.
You will also find a wonderful selection of New York state National Bank Notes with great rarities and top grades to please collectors in all brackets. There is something for everyone, or at least I hope so. The large size type is some 620 notes that have variety in quality, price and desirability, and we have taken market conditions into our estimates. The currency market remains very healthy among collectors. Take advantage of the opportunity on these fine collections. See you in Lenexa!

All Roads Lead to Chicago

In November, Lyn Knight and Jim Taylor presented their second Greater Chicago Postcard and Paper Show, with many of the top dealers form the U.S. and Europe in attendance. With over 150 tables of great merchandise offered, the attendees were able to spend their two days shopping, visiting, and re-connecting with old friends of the hobby as well as meeting the new collectors and dealers. Our good friend Reno Daret of Metairie, LA came all the way from Louisiana by Amtrack train to sneak up and catch all the New Orleans postcards for his specialized collection. Susan Nicholson, former proprietor of the show was in great form, buying and selling and enjoying her second show away from having to sit at the door. She's not far from the door, and always ready to give advice and make recommendations and give appraisals to collectors and dealers alike. The show's new owner, Lyn Knight was in attendance, showcasing the new Lyn Knight Postcard Auction material, and introducing his "Postcard Shop'" huge graphic backdrop, replicating an old time postcard shop, complete with postcard racks, and 50,000 postcards for $1 each. A display from Lyn Knight Auction included displays on stage of the state of the art, Knight Live Internet Auction operation. Ron from Holland had his new material fresh from the European shows here for his U.S. customers, Joey handled the Spring 2009 for mom Mary Martin, and in the Fall 2009 show, our good friend, the one and only Bill Martin was holding court in his corner of the room, with everyone taking turns going to visit and shop his huge stock. Lots of old friendships were renewed, as a number of dealers that either hadn't been at Chicago before, or had not been there for a number of years had returned, much to the delight of the crowd of collectors that came to the show. The first of the two 2010 Greater Chicago Postcard and Paper Shows is coming up April 16, 17, 2010, with a promise of approximately 55 dealers from all over the U.S. and Europe. It promises to bring lots of 'other' paper, posters, documents, photographs, not just postcards, and also featuring archival supplies, reference books, door prize drawing every hour, and a promise of a good time for all. For details contact Jim Taylor, 1.888.451.0340 or jim@lynknight.com
